Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon was born on March 22, 1976. A recipient of various awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and an Emmy Award, Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she is consistently among the top-paid actresses in the world. Time magazine named her one of the top 100 influential people in the world in 2006 and in 2015, and Forbes named her one of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2019 and 2021. Forbes listed her as the World's Richest Actress in 2021. Her net worth is estimated to be 400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in 1991 when she was an untrained teenager. Her breakthrough came in 1999 when she played the role of a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions, and for her performance as Tracy Flick in the black comedy Election. Her roles in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) and in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) have earned her more attention. In 2005, she received praise from critics and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a downturn in her career the only box-office success was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen with the production and role in Wild (2014). She got an additional Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. Since then, she has been involved in a majority of television productions and has starred in a variety of female-led adaptations of literary works. They include the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) as well as The Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show (2019-present), and the Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (2020). She won the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first episode. She also directed the movies Gone Girl (2014), and Where the Crawdads Sing (222). She sits on the Children's Defense Fund's Board and was honored to be the chair of Avon Foundation's charity for women's causes in 2007.
